Phil Ferrell

It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Deputy Fire Marshal Phil O. Ferrell, IAFF 7th District Local 31 – Tacoma, Washington. Brother Ferrell, 72, passed away on April 13, 2024 after succumbing to occupational cancer.

Phil Ferrell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and dear friend, passed peacefully after a long-fought battle with firefighter-related cancer, surrounded by his loving family on April 13, 2024 in Lakewood, Washington. He was 72 years old.

A former firefighter/paramedic, Phil retired from the Tacoma Fire Department as a Deputy Fire Marshal with a career spanning 31 years. His name will appear on the Tacoma Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

For all that knew Phil, he had a way with words that his family and friends coined “Phillyisms” highlighting bits of wisdom on his philosophy on life. He loved The Rolling Stones, a good Tanqueray and tonic, Friday night happy hours, and traveling the world.

He is survived by his wife Debbie and their children and grandchildren, Nick Ferrell and his son Max, Natalie and son-in-law Bob Mustain and their children Ella and Reed, along with sister Sheila Mitchell and brothers Jeff and Jim Ferrell.
